Weeks Marine was contracted by the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority to dredge six million cubic meters of sediment from the Carraízo reservoir. The disposal of the dredged sediment required Weeks Marine to design and build three confined disposal areas which had combined capacity of seven million cubic meters. The construction of the disposal areas included excavating and compacting two million cubic meters of soil into levees as high as 17 meters. Multiple booster stations were required to transport the dredged material in excess of 50,000 feet. To execute the project, heavy dredging equipment was disassembled and trucked up the mountain to the site for reassembly and operation
