This multi-faceted project began with the installation of 248,558 SF of HZ/AZ Combi-Wall and 98,340 SF of AZ-18 sheet pile anchor wall to form a 3,750 LF bulkhead on the edge of the Elizabeth River. Weeks Marine drove 1,212 concrete cylinder piles (36” and 54” diameter and up to 164’ long) to support a 350,000 SF concrete deck. Cast-in-place pile cap beams spanned the wharf transversely, while two 8’ wide longitudinal beams were centered under the 100’ gage crane rails. Prestressed slabs weighing 40 tons spanned between the transverse beams and a Bidwell screed was used to place and finish an 8” thick concrete deck topping.  Almost a half a million square feet of 12” thick concrete paving was installed immediately landside of the wharf.  The project also included more than 400,000 cubic yards of earthwork, underground utilities (water and electricity), and the installation of a wide variety of mooring, fendering, and anchoring hardware. Placed approx. 60,000 tons of rock slope protection.
