Completion Date: January 1, 2010
Categories: Dredging, Shore Protection

The community of Holiday Isle is situated on the extreme western end of the city of Destin Florida’s Gulf of Mexico shoreline. Originally slated to be performed in 2007, the project was put on hold for three (3) years due to numerous hurdles including hurricanes, lawsuits and permit delays.

The contract required 140,000 cubic yards of beautiful white sand to be placed on the project footprint. The material was excavated from an offshore borrow site with the dredge BE Lindholm, transported to a near shore pump off location, then pumped ashore and placed with an “on the fly” design consisting of a varying width berm and a dune feature that followed the structures on the shore. Dredging and placement operations required extra special care due to endangered sea turtles and nesting shorebirds present during the projects execution.
