Dredging approximately 6.8 miles (4 million CY) of navigation channel, levee repair and rehabilitation, levee raising and shore protection of existing upland placement areas and developing five new placement areas. WMI’s team completed the design and construction in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers in order to accomplish the goals of future marsh creation in the Galveston Bay estuary as well as create capacity to accommodate future maintenance dredging cycles in the Texas City Ship Channel. Deepening of the Texas City Ship Channel from 45’ to 50’ was accomplished utilizing the Cutter Suction Dredge R.S.Weeks with the excavated dredge material used to create 656 acres of new beneficial use placement areas. Repairs to existing placement areas were accomplished to restore them to pre-Hurricane Ike elevations. The project was completed in late 2011.
