Generator Heavy Lift Onto USNS Comfort

New York, NY
Supporting the USNS Comfort’s COVID-19 mission in New York City by performing some critical heavy lifting

The USNS Comfort was deployed to New York City in 2020 on a mission to help alleviate pressures on local hospitals during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the hospital ship was berthed in the Hudson River and medical teams on board were caring for patients aboard the ship, Weeks Marine’s heavy lift team was tapped by the U.S. Navy to aid in resupplying the ship with materials they could not otherwise receive via the dock.

The USNS teams needed an additional generator lifted to the deck of the ship which sits at about 100 feet above the water. Weeks Marine mobilized the Weeks 527, a floating crane with a boom length of 180 feet and a 130-ton lifting capacity to pick up the generator from our Jersey City yard and deliver it to the Comfort’s deck on April 27th, 2020. Weeks’ tug Seeley was used for the tow.
